![]() ![]() His bewilderment and discovery falls on deaf ears to his older brother Michael (Robert McNaughton), younger siser Gertie (Drew Barrymore), and their recently-separated mother Mary (Dee Wallace). Hearing a clamor in the back shed, the alien is discovered by 10-year-old Elliot (Henry Thomas). The small alien eludes the agents and hides out among the houses nearby. Leaving in haste, they leave one of their own behind. They come to collect flora samples when their presence is interrupted by a group of government agents and scientists who seem to have discovered their arrival. For those too young to remember, a single UFO of meek and curious aliens have landed in the tall forests of the California outside of suburbia. As we've now seen for thirty years, E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial is a triumph on a multitude of levels and rightfully earns its place as an American cinematic classic. ![]() The film has more heart, finesse, performance, and magic in single scenes than some movies have in their entire running time, and does it with an animatronic special effect as a main character. Steven Spielberg's E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial is one of those movies. Some movies, though, just flat-out have more magic than others. Thank God that both versions were on the collectors edition DVD set.Movies have always been considered magic on some level, to make fiction appear to come to life. And, I simply refuse to watch that version again. However, I am still disgusted with the 20th anniversary rerelease, with new scenes & all of the "politically correct" editing that was done to that release. And hopefully even more before I shuffle off this mortal coil. And as of, I have actually grabbed hold of everything Sir John Williams.Īnd, to date, I have nearly 400 viewings of E.T. But, it didn't take me long to begin collecting any & everything he'd ever written and/or recorded. ![]() And, although I did know who Sir John Williams was, had never purchased a movie soundtrack before E.T. soundtrack twice, and was on the verge of doing the same with my 3rd copy. Between time was spent absorbing one of the greatest movie soundtracks I have ever heard, and still believe that 38 years later! By the time my senior year of high school began, I had purchased & wore out the E.T. I was instantly hooked, and spent my entire summer at that theater, watching E.T. ![]() In 1982, I sat front row center for the very first showing of E.T. ![]()
